With an impressive and defining swim season in 2025, Guyanese athletes showcased exceptional talent, grit, and endurance across both pool and open water competitions. Throughout the year, swimmers proudly represented Guyana at local, regional, and international events, demonstrating remarkable growth and competitiveness in the sport.
For 2025, the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) recorded one of its strongest showings to date. The steady improvement in performance standards was evident, as swimmers consistently delivered faster times and stronger finishes. Guyana has witnessed a surge in high-caliber performances, producing some of the fastest and most dominant swimmers in its history. This upward trajectory can be directly attributed to the unwavering dedication of the athletes and the tireless commitment of coaches who continuously go above and beyond to refine technique, build endurance, and strengthen mental resilience.
Open water swimming also gained significant momentum in 2025. With events now being hosted regularly by GASA, athletes embraced the challenge of competing beyond the confines of the pool. In the mining town of Linden, swimmers tested their limits in the mighty Demerara River, demonstrating not only physical endurance and strength but also courage as they overcame fears and adapted to dynamic natural conditions. These competitions have added a new and exciting dimension to the sport locally, further developing well-rounded athletes.
At the recently concluded ASATT Invitational in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Guyanese contingent delivered an exemplary performance. Competing against some of the region’s strongest swimmers, the team captured multiple national records, along with an impressive medal haul of gold, silver, and bronze. Athletes also achieved numerous personal best times, underscoring the consistent progress and competitive readiness of Guyana’s swim program on the regional stage.
Under the leadership of the Athletes Swimming Committee – Guyana, headed by Mr. Fitzroy Thom, and the executive team of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association, led by President Ms. Yelema Phillips, the Association remains steadfast, focused, and determined to build on the successes achieved in 2025.
